In 1943, a young sniper joins forces with the underground resistance to help launch a crucial battle against the Japanese army in Haicheng. As deadly sniper duels unfold, a hidden enemy conspiracy is revealed, forcing Chinese soldiers to fight with limited resources and unyielding courage in a brutal fight for survival.

A couple living in a poor mountainous area leads a peaceful life with their young son. Tragedy strikes when a fire engulfs their home, leading the father to lose a leg while saving their child, and the mother to donate her corneas, resulting in blindness. As the son grows up and moves to the city, he distances himself from his humble origins, only to later realize the depth of his parents' love and sacrifices.

In 20th century Shanghai, Hong Sanyuan arrives with his mother and close friend, Qi Lin, in search of a better life. There, he came under the guidance of ferry leader Yan Hua. Hong becomes entangled in the power struggles between two large conglomerates, and eventually also becomes involved in political affairs.
