A stage adaptation of the 1869 novel ‘The Idiot’ by Fyodor Dostoevsky, performed at the Russian Theatre of Estonia.

The head of the regional inspectorate of architectural and construction control, Veprev, writes a critical article to the central newspaper about shortcomings in local construction, thereby causing dissatisfaction with the regional leadership. They find an excuse to release Veprev from his post. But the intervention of one of the journalists in the case helps to restore justice.

Staged at the Russian Theater (Tallinn), "Idiot" has entered the history of the Estonian theater due to the magnificent performances of Alexander Ivashkevich, Larisa Savankova and Eduard Toman.

In August 1799, Russian troops under the command of A.V. Suvorov, having defeated the French in northern Italy, received an unexpected order. Instead of marching on Paris, they are ordered to go to the remote Swiss Alps, where there is a powerful and countless French army.

The Red Army squadron is trying to escape from the enemy while carrying a huge load of rare furs to be sold abroad.

Classical history, not devoid of mysteries and mysticism, develops in different historical epochs – from Louis the Sun to the present day. Rhythms, mores, manners, and fashion are changing. Powdered wigs and doublets will be replaced by tailcoats and top hats, jackets and jackets. Only art and Bulgakov's plot remain eternal, in which the themes are intricately intertwined: the artist and power, love and betrayal, talent and envy.

Director Yuri Eremin masterfully presents classics in a contemporary way, finding vital connections with the present while avoiding semantic and artistic overstatements. Dostoevsky's translation of the biblical story to Russian soil resonates more poignantly than ever before. The play, with its intense plot development, seamlessly intertwines profound philosophical and moral content with a maelstrom of destructive passions, centered on the protagonist, who unwittingly sparks a love rivalry between two extraordinary women.
