Director Yuri Eremin masterfully presents classics in a contemporary way, finding vital connections with the present while avoiding semantic and artistic overstatements. Dostoevsky's translation of the biblical story to Russian soil resonates more poignantly than ever before. The play, with its intense plot development, seamlessly intertwines profound philosophical and moral content with a maelstrom of destructive passions, centered on the protagonist, who unwittingly sparks a love rivalry between two extraordinary women. The head of the regional inspectorate of architectural and construction control, Veprev, writes a critical article to the central newspaper about shortcomings in local construction, thereby causing dissatisfaction with the regional leadership. They find an excuse to release Veprev from his post. But the intervention of one of the journalists in the case helps to restore justice.
