Joseph is looking for Mara. Mara is trying to find herself. He meets up with her at a party. People are talking about a white whale that has been washed up on the beach. Mara wants to see it, and Joseph wants to follow Mara – never mind the gathering storm.

Three young women wait, singing. Boredom prompts one of them to tell the other two about a dream she had: a sailor lost on a distant island.

After a painful break-up, Lisa returns to her family farm to help her father, who is nearing retirement. One night, she meets Élise, an actress living in a large house next door. The two develop a friendship, and Lisa helps Élise learn lines for a play based on the story of Joan of Arc. But Lisa, both fascinated and troubled by the actress, becomes increasingly haunted by visions.

A film of big stories wrapped up in little things, of circulation (of desires and glances), both erotic and burlesque.
