Karem Mahmoud Abu Raya was born in Damanhour. He began his life reciting the Holy Qur’an. He sang in concerts when he was young. Togo Mizrahi discovered him as an actor after he began his life as a singer. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Arabic Music in 1944.
