Here is a school where hangs a portrait of a female whose face has been painted over. If you scratch away a portion of the whitewash, the woman actually appears to haunt and harass you. Her face is said to defy description, so horrifying in fact that one wishes for death upon seeing it. This school forms the backdrop for female teen, Yayoi Himeno, who finds herself embroiled in a terrifying mystery.

Ichiro Onizuka is a skilled detective who is confined to a wheelchair after being injured in an incident that occurred right before his retirement. Armed with a detailed "city of memory" in his mind, he solves modern-day cases alongside Saki Toyama and Keitaro Jin, while recalling the cases of the past.

Giba (Ryo Yoshizawa) and several of his colleagues work at a revenge agency. A mysterious girl called "Taker" leads the group. Giba lacks emotion for a person. The revenge agency takes on revenge requests on behalf of their clients. Their clients include a woman who is a victim of a fraud marriage and the family of a victim killed by a serial murderer.
