The film portrays the ambitions and struggles in a relationship among members of a middle-class family.

Sudden industrialization and big scale mining activities in central-eastern India, in the twentyfirst century, has affected the socio-economic fabric of society which was earlier dependent on agriculture. People felt alienated due to the shift. A new meaning in life has to emerge. In this backdrop, a young man and a young woman cross each other's path accidentally, each searching for his/her identity. Their journey starts on the ever expanding ROAD.

When Bhagwan Shri Jagannath and his brother, Bhagwan Shri Balabhadra, refuse to partake offerings from a lower-caste woman, Shriya. Devi Maa Lakshmi is offended and puts a curse on both of them. The duo, hungry and homeless, go from village to village, house to house in search of food. What they don't realize is that Devi Maa, in collusion with Vayu Dev, Agni Dev, and Pawan Dev is determined to teach both of them a lesson they will never forget.

Sati, who is forced into marriage by her poor parents with a rich ugly old man living with a concubine. She find the other way to overcome the mishap in her life, when a young neighbor Nath develops love interest with her. Both finally leaves the village and escape to Cuttack town. The conservative neighbors question about their relationship. Sati, unable to bear the scandal concerning her and Nath, finally commits suicide by jumping into the river.

Sarojini and Nilambar Roy were in love. But eventually Nilambar refused to marry Sarojini and radiated malicious rumours in her name. Sarojini commit suicide. Sarojini's elder brother Barada Pattanaik could not take his sister's tragic death easily. Decades later, in order to restore peace between the family, Siddharth Ray, the elder son of Nilambar Ray asks for Barada Pattanaik's niece Shaila's hand for his younger brother Partha. Shaila becomes Ray family's daughter in law at the age of twelve. Barada Pattanaik still seeks revenge and hence concocts plans to destroy the Ray Family.

Nandika is childless after 8 years of marriage to Sunanda and she persuades him to remarry. Sunanda and second wife Lalita move to the city and Nandika finds she is pregnant and follows them.

Anuaradha and her brother save a man, Debabrata, washed ashore from the sea. Anuaradha and Debabrata fall in love and get married, but Anuaradha's feelings change when she finds that Debabrata is widower and has a son.
