This time, in keeping with the best traditions of the first two parts, Mothers tells a beautiful, fascinating, lyrical and funny story of the three mothers that takes place in a small European town on New Year’s Eve. The three mothers are flying to Prague on New Year’s Eve.

A plane is preparing for departure. The captain’s co-pilot has fallen ill, and replacing a partner right before takeoff is considered a bad omen. Passengers are already seated, and a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar is playing in the cabin. The captain wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a pleasant flight. But soon after takeoff, a flight attendant informs the captain: the plane has been hijacked.

The mayor of a village sees her son killed in a gun accident. A successful, dedicated bureuacrat, she must reconcile her desire to build a bridge - and the new housing that will come with it - with the reality of resistance from the townspeople and her own grief.
