Narayan Sanyal

Jadi Jantem (English: If I Knew) is a 1974 Indian Bengali-language drama thriller film directed by Tarun Majumdar as Yatrik. This movie was released under the banner of Chitrajug. Uttam Kumar played the role of main protagonist of the movie, Mr. P. K. Basu, Bar-at-law. This movie was based on the thriller novel Nagchampa of Narayan Sanyal.

Detective Byomkesh and sidekick Awjeet, on the request of Dr. Rakshit, meets Bishupal, a moneylender whose life is under threat from Awbhoy Ghoshal. However, Ghoshal is found dead in a twist of events.

Follows Satyapriya Acharya, an idealistic young engineer raised on strict moral principles, who enters post-Independence India determined to live by truth and integrity despite the corruption around him. He marries Ranjana, a woman carrying a painful past, and his compassionate decision to stand by her deepens both his personal struggles and his moral resolve. As professional setbacks, social pressures, and family responsibilities mount, Satyapriya’s unwavering honesty tests the limits of his ideals and the cost of living truthfully in a compromised world.

Sharmila is from an affluent family who falls in love with a poor but educated man, Anand. Trouble ensues when the couple finds it difficult to make ends meet.
