Alma is a scientist coerced into participating in an extraordinary study in order to obtain research funds for her work. For three weeks, she has to live with a humanoid robot tailored to her character and needs, whose artificial intelligence is designed to be the perfect life partner for her. Enter Tom, a machine in human form in a class of its own, created solely to make her happy.

Nico, a filmmaker, returns to her hometown to lead a storytelling workshop with her childhood friend Lori, a schoolteacher there. Lori’s pupils are asked to imagine their future selves. The children’s thoughts prompt Nico and Lori to reexamine their own decisions in life — as well as their friendship.

After her private life falls apart, a young doctor seeking a fresh start takes over the emergency room in Berlin's toughest, most chaotic hospital. Battling staff resistance and a run-down system, she must unite her maverick team to save lives.
