In this fast-moving fantasy, an unsophisticated student escapes from a boarding school to become, after many trials and tribulations, the "toast of Paris."

Fabrège is a ladies' man. His friend Pascal, at the circle, evokes these conquests, among others Denise Lamblin for whom he fought a duel and this other woman for whom he stayed an entire night, in the pouring rain, under his windows. While the next day they have to take the train together, at the sight of a female figure on the station platform, Fabrège changes trains and sets out to conquer the beautiful stranger. Arrived in Cannes, they go down to the Miramar hotel and their idyll begins.

Grégoire Vachette is a bashful librarian, forced to listen to the daily boasting of his colleague Courgéan, a great seducer according to what he says. But when, while on holiday, Grégoire meets beautiful Madeleine, the shy young man becomes fired up. Back to his place of work, he can't help communicating his enthusiasm for Madeleine, so much so that he too is taken for a Don Juan. But Madeleine is not for him. Nevertheless, his unexpected change of attitude will have helped him to conquer the heart of Denise, a typist who loved him in secret.

Vérotchka, a vivacious theater actress touring in a provincial town, is turned out of her hotel by orders of Monsieur Tricointe, the stern president of the local law court. In a rage, the actress knocks at Tricointe's door with a view to protesting against the treatment she is given. She goes about it so well that she ends up being accommodated by the president himself. This is the moment Jean-Pierre Gaudet, the Minister of Justice, chooses to pay an unannounced visit to his friend Tricointe. There he mistakes Vérotchka for Madame Tricointe and the president does not dare to contradict Gaudet. A lot of absurd situations ensue.
