Samath's humble and patient demeanor is also highlighted in the movie and contrasts vehemently with the sense of entitlement we see in children educated in major cities. Directed by Professor Sunil Ariyaratne, 'Gautama Buddha Matha' is a cinematic portrayal inspired by the life of Mahapajapati Gotami, the revered queen and one of the earliest followers of the Buddha.

Samanali, a quiet and dedicated dance teacher in her twenties working at a convent, leads a strictly disciplined life void of romance. She carries the heavy emotional weight of her family’s past—specifically a ongoing rift where her grandmother constantly blames her mother—and feels deeply responsible for both women's well-being. In contrast, Sihina is a handsome, wealthy, and carefree young man who has just returned from studying abroad. Their worlds collide when the convent struggles to find a financial sponsor for an upcoming concert. Sihina steps forward to sponsor the event. Upon visiting the convent to arrange the details, he catches a glimpse of Samanali and falls in love at first sight, setting the romantic story in motion.
