King Florestan XIV invites all the fairies in the kingdom to the christening of his daughter Aurora. As they bestow beauty, generosity, and grace upon the princess, they are interrupted by the arrival of the horrible fairy Carabosse, who, furious at not having been invited to the festivities, casts a curse on Princess Aurora: on her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger and die. LICHT (1977–2003) is a cycle of seven monumental operas by Karlheinz Stockhausen, spanning the seven days of the week and intended to encapsulate the whole of life. This monumental work by William Shakespeare, published in 1592, consists of three plays, 80 scenes, and 12,000 verses that recount the 50-year reign of this king of England. Against the backdrop of the Hundred Years' War and the internal strife linked to the civil war of the "Two Roses," this dramatic episode in English history saw the royal houses of York and Lancaster torn apart in the race for power.
