After the end of the civil war, sailor Ivan Ivanov, who dreams of working at the legendary Putilov factory, arrives in Petrograd to build a new life.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Ivan Hryhurko. The story is about the difficult life of young mechanics working on an irrigation canal in the steppe.
