Philippe Descola

A documentary that focuses on Hayao Miyazaki’s deep connection to nature and the environmental themes expressed through his films.

The film begins with a volcanic eruption that stranded the director, Pauline Julier, in a foreign city, among strangers. In turns, these strangers evoke legends about the formation of the continents, the blooming of the tectonic plates or the explosion of ash that provoked summers without sun.

Anthropologist Philippe Descola has dedicated his life to understanding what has driven humanity to condemn the planet. In Notre-Dame-des-Landes, France, he comes across a unique social experiment that looks to find a new way to live in the world.

In an abandoned hotel, a pirate radio host, artists, scientists, activists, and farmers are reinventing the world.
