Brandon, a surveyor, dreams of building a railway to the west. He sets off with his son, Davy, to survey a route. They discover a new pass which will shave 200 miles off the expected distance, but they are set upon by a party of Cheyenne. One of them, a white renegade with only two fingers on his right hand, kills Brandon and scalps him. Davy is all alone now.

To hide his identity he is introduced as the husband's new valet, but still the husband has some doubts about a few strange scenes. And during the night, when the son tries to visit his mother, the husband always starts interfering, but the new maid also behaves strangely, trying to sneak into the husband's room...

Twin "babies" left at an orphanage bear the same birthmark under the chin. One of them is adopted and then the scene shifts to "twenty years later." The other as captain of a sailing vessel needs an extra hand. It does not develop until the end that the well dressed man he has abducted is his own brother.

Wide Open Spaces is a 1924 Western silent film starring Stan Laurel.

After Bill Davis rescues a Native American woman from outlaw Jim Slade, he is lost in the desert, where his horse dies from thirst. Nita Randall, whose father operates a nearby mine, finds Bill in time to prevent him from suffering a similar fate. When Slade plots to take over the mine, Dad Randall kills one of outlaw's men, then dies of an injury. Bill accepts the blame and Nita turns against him. She later forgives and falls in love with Bill after he defeats Slade.

Stan Laurel as a harness racing jockey who must win a big race.

Stan plays a waiter at a crappy restaurant and frankly such fare was better done by Chaplin and others. However, in two cute scenes, the film shines. The first is a Limburger cheese bit that is low-brow but funny. The second is the final scene with dogs following Stan at the end.
