Hugo is 19 years old. Like every summer, he spends his holidays on an Atlantic island, in the small family house. But this year is different: Hugo has undergone a physical transformation and arrives with his girlfriend, Queen, a beautician whose lively chatter and long, glittery nails contrast sharply with the young man’s modesty and shyness. Before long, the couple becomes the focus of everyone’s attention.

Sophie is a brilliant student. Encouraged by her maths teacher, she leaves the family farm to attend a science preparatory class. Between new encounters, successes and failures, and faced with fierce competition, Sophie realizes that her dream of joining the Polytechnique represents more than an entrance examination but a true challenge of social climbing.

The Farels are a power couple: Jean is a prominent French pundit and his wife Claire an essayist known for her radical feminism. Together they have a model son, Alexandre, who is a student at a prestigious American university. During a brief visit to Paris, Alexandre meets Mila, the daughter of his mother’s new partner, and invites her to a party. The next day, Mila files a complaint against Alexandre for rape, destroying family harmony and setting in motion an inextricable media-judicial machine that posits opposing truths.
