Modeled on Setouchi Jakucho, Inoue Mitsuharu, and his wife, 2 women depicts the special relationship between a man and two women, based on the novel by Inoue Areno, the eldest daughter of Inoue.

Akashi is a multigenerational love story told across parallel timelines. Kana, a struggling artist in Vancouver, returns to Tokyo for her grandmother’s funeral, feeling out of place after ten years abroad. As she reflects on a secret only she and her grandmother shared—that her grandfather had another lover—she unexpectedly reconnects with an old love, Hiro. Intercut with the past, which traces her grandfather’s decades-long affair, Kana confronts hidden family truths and begins to navigate the complexities of love, sacrifice, and the choices that shape a life between desire and duty.

On a street in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Yoshio, a musician bachelor, is drunk. Then he gets a phone call from his brother Satoshi, who tells him that his mother Michiko has attempted suicide and is in a coma. Yoshio decides to head for his hometown where he has not been back for years. He takes Maki, a woman he met that night at the Tama River. They get off at the unmanned station, Ranshima. Yoshio and Maki walk in silence to the hospital where Michiko is. Michiko, however, is unconscious and asleep. Yoshio introduces Maki to his brother, Satoshi, as his own wife. Unlike Satoshi, who works for a company, Yoshio has no money, so it is all he can do to show his face. Yoshio and Maki's fake married life begins.

Otowa had one leg amputated at the age of 12 due to illness, since then, she has been in and out of the hospital repeatedly, and was unable to attend her middle school graduation ceremony. To make up for this, her classmates threw a surprise graduation ceremony for her on the hospital rooftop, the video of the ceremony goes viral on social media, after that, Otowa began receiving modeling offers…

Maki finds out that she is pregnant. She enjoys a gentle pregnancy, but one day, as the due date approaches, Maki is hospitalized. She undergoes a prenatal diagnosis to confirm the safety of her child and the results are negative. Maki is relieved, but when the time comes to give birth, the baby is born with an incurable disease.
