When Paula leaves her mate Pedro, he misses her and looks for comfort with his best friends, Javier and Sonia. Paula is having an affair with Javier. Pedro tries to find who is the secret lover of Paula, and hires a private eye. Meanwhile, while comforting Pedro, Sonia has a one night stand with him and Javier thinks she is cheating on him with her lesbian friend Luzia.

This movie doesn't have any coherent plot. It's the portrait of the lives of different people in the hard years of post-war in Spain (the 40's), and how they manage to survive in a country desolated by the war. Like other films: La colmena or Roma (Fellini) it shows us lots of characters and some moments of their lives.

Maria escapes from prison. On the run, she breaks her ankle. Julian, a truck driver, finds her sitting at the roadside, crying. He picks her up and takes her to a hospital. On her first chance, Maria flees again and goes to a hotel, where she ends up as a prostitute. She frequents bars and saloons, commits some robberies, but neither sex, nor the tequila, can replace love.

Based on the powerful novel by Ray Loriga. A young man and a young girl's lives are united under dramatic circumstances. He has just shot a security guard in the face who had accused him of robbing at a local mall. When he steals a car to escape, he meets the girl who, regardless of her suicidal inclinations, is attracted by her new companion. Together they embark on a journey in search for a true meaning in their lives.
