On October 17 and 18, 1961, during a non-violent demonstration against the imposed curfew, dozens of Algerians were murdered in Paris by police officers acting on orders from their superiors. For forty years, this crime has been concealed; yet these events, the deadliest on French soil since the Second World War, resemble, in some respects, the darkest hours of the collaboration. Why has this history been hidden? Under what conditions, and in the name of what reasons, did officials of a democratic state conceal the scale and gravity of such events?

Structured in two parts, the film uses the municipal newspaper, Le Journal de Béziers (later renamed Le Journal du Biterrois), to examine the city's management by Robert Ménard, elected mayor in 2014 with the support of the National Rally. By meeting with residents and activists, the film reveals the "behind the scenes" of this southern French city. It shows how this newspaper shapes a political and ideological line for a fundamentalist Catholic France, rejecting Muslims, while simultaneously seeking to control and monitor all its inhabitants. Harassment, abuse, loss of meaning in work... lead thousands of employees to suffer at work, fall ill, or even commit suicide! This marks the beginning of a real struggle for these victims or their families to have their suffering recognized as a "work accident" or "occupational illness" and, where appropriate, to have the employers responsible convicted in criminal court. Through three situations emblematic of these strategies of denial, this film shows how social mobilization and solidarity enable victims or their families to say: "We won't give up!"

Does being Jewish mean that Israel's policy must be systematically defended? Does criticizing Israel automatically make you an anti-Semite? Does declaring yourself anti-Zionist and pro-Palestinian imply de facto that you are not racist? All these questions, Daniel Kupferman, whose membership in the Jewish community is in no way opposed to his humanism, has been asking himself for years and here he is asking them to eight quality people, a guarantee of a fruitful dialogue far from any hateful or partisan blindness.
