Yuko is sent to the coastal regions to be raised away from the rest of her sophisticated family where she finds out from her ill grandmother that she is not who she thought she was.

Tamio Moroi, a young university graduate, works at a large brewery where he is taught to do nothing but look busy. When his father goes insane, he is told to send money for medical research into the condition. This prompts him to pay his father a visit, leading to a series of mishaps that leaves him at the bottom of the heap in what he once expected to be a promising lifetime career.

Nishi is an advertising executive for a caramel company that is planning to launch a new product, in fierce competition with two other companies.

Kyoko is the third daughter of the Nonomiya family, a very ordinary family. For Reiko, the life of the Todo family is completely different, but when she meets the bright and intelligent Fuyuhiko, she feels more than just affection for him, going beyond Reiko's circumstances. Meanwhile, Fuyuhiko also begins to love the neat and beautiful Reiko. The relationship between the two develops rapidly, but Reiko's heart is complicated. This is because Reiko has an older sister, Ginko, who works in a red-light district...

The former Japanese Naval Academy was at Etajima, one of the many islands of the beautiful Inland Sea. Among the new cadets were Ishikawa and Murase. Murase's mother had remarried after his father's death and the impressionable boy hated his overbearing father who held the whip-hand over his gentle mother. Out of defiance of his step-father he became wayward. But he was bright and his teacher persuaded him to enter the Academy as he knew that if he left home, his mother need not feel apologetic towards her husband on his account. Discipline was strict, their studies were hard and, in between, all the new cadets received an ample share of beatings, at the hands of the senior cadets, for the slightest mistakes. Murase thought all picked on him the most, especially Cadet First Class Kogure, who manhandled him at the slightest excuse.

The story revolves around a young man appointed to rescue a troubled hospital who must choose between two women, a dedicated nurse or a spoiled rich girl.
