The film is set in August of 1941, when the Nazi forces invaded and occupied the European part of Russia. Major Mlynsky is in charge of the special group of partisans. His group is absorbing other small groups of Russian soldiers, who managed to survive from the attacks of the overwhelming Nazi forces. The Nazi Armies are advancing to Moscow. Major Mlynsky is organizing the Russian partisan's resistance against the Nazis, behind the enemy lines.

It's so different — the world of our childhood. For Arman, the little hero of the film, these are endless meadows and snow—white flocks of sheep grazing on the steep slopes of green hills, the calm warmth of a yurt, an ancient stone baba, to which a real hunting golden eagle arrives every day, a smart dog Aktaban, boundless expanse and clear sky overhead. And suddenly this familiar world narrowed down to the size of a city boarding school with unusual laws, unfamiliar people - Arman went to the first grade.

The film takes place in 1926 on the southern borders of Kazakhstan. An OGPU search detachment, led by an experienced commander Kasymov, is tasked with neutralizing a gang of Basmachi who have secretly crossed the border.

The film is dedicated to the events of the Civil War, the offensive of Denikin and Kolchak's troops on Uralsk, and the defense of the city. Historical facts are presented in it on a significant scale, through the personalities and fates of many characters, with a wide introduction of mass and battle scenes.
