A young, queer Muslim woman is grappling with the decision to come out to her devout mother, and ends up marrying her boyfriend to evade silent disapproval. This is a mother-daughter love story that reveals the often unseen intricacies of coming out and of seeking common ground and family.

Kelet is a twentysomething black trans woman, whose greatest dream is to be on the cover of Vogue magazine. For the Finnish-born and Manchester-raised Kelet, such models as Naomi Campbell and Iman served as role models giving her strength – and during the darkest times, kept her alive. After coming out, then 19-year-old Kelet was cut off from her family and she moved back to Finland on her own.

Shot over a five-year period in a nuanced, cinematic style, Tomboy tells the story of four women drummers, making their mark in a stereotypically masculine field. Together they span sixty years of popular music - celebrated through a trove of previously unseen archival footage, intimate portraiture, insightful interviews and some serious drumming skills. The film captures the intoxicating atmosphere onstage, then goes beyond to chart each artist’s personal journey, converging in a unique celebration of the female experience that hits hard and hits home
