Ritchie Blackmore

Rainbow was formed by Ritchie Blackmore in 1975 after he left Deep Purple at the height of their fame. They were instantly successful and released a string of hit albums, with an ever-changing line up, between 1975 and 1983 when Blackmore broke up the group to join the reformed Deep Purple. This concert from their European tour in 1977 features the line up responsible for the "Long Live Rock ’n’ Roll" album released later that year, including vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Cozy Powell. Blackmore had to be smuggled out of Austria after trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier, and was very late arriving in Munich, all of which seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig.

Deep Purple in 1972 were reaching the height of their success, with hit singles and albums worldwide. Into this heady atmosphere they delivered one of the most famous rock albums of all time, 'Machine Head'.

Live performance from British rock band Deep Purple recorded at the California Jam festival at the Ontario Motor Speedway in April 1974. Playing to a crowd of over 200,000 people, the band perform hits including 'Smoke On the Water', 'Might Just Take Your Life' and 'Burn'.

After his departure from Deep Purple in 1993, Ritchie Blackmore reformed Rainbow with a new line-up and went into the studio to record the acclaimed “Stranger In Us All” album. The band then took to the road for an extensive tour which included this 1995 live concert in Dusseldorf filmed for Germany’s famous Rockpalast TV series. The set features several tracks from the “Stranger In Us All” album alongside classic Rainbow and Deep Purple tracks. The band are on blistering form and Ritchie Blackmore shows just why he is so revered as a guitarist. This previously unreleased show is a great addition to any Rainbow fan’s collection.

Rock legend Deep Purple recorded live at the Birmingham NEC, UK on November 9, 1993. Five members from the band's most famous line up play their hits during their 25th anniversary world tour. Note that Ritchie Blackmore dropped out soon after this particular concert. Filmed in Melbourne, Australia in 1984, this concert video is the only full length concert film of the band at this time. A stunning concert with the band in incendiary form, the setlist mixes then new tracks from the 'Perfect Strangers' album with favorites from the early seventies culminating in the brilliant 'Smoke On The Water' finale.
