Formerly a squadron commander, the hero worked at the small airfield for many years. Komesk - as his colleagues call him in a friendly manner - is now retired. At the center of the story is the heroic fate of Frenchwoman Jeanne-Marie Lyabourb (1877-1919), shot by French interventionists.

In a mountain village in Transcarpathia lives the family of a carpenter Mykhailo Tsar. They are respected everywhere, and the head of the family is very proud of it. Suddenly the son Oleksa fell in love with the paramedic Nadya, although he has a wife and Nadya has a child. Father and brothers force Oleksa to leave his mistress.

After the Bolshevik coup Alexei Tolmachev comes to enter the university. However, he becomes a chekist and receives his first assignment - to establish a connection with the Odesa conspirators and to gather the atamans in the city to finish off the bandits in one go...
