Once upon a time, miles and miles away, there was an old man with an old woman. They spent with each other a long time but had no children. A young surgeon Alexander came to the village for a vacation. He is pleased with himself, everything is going well in his life: he is behind the institute, preparing his thesis, working in a famous clinic. However, soon Alexander decides to stay to work in a rural hospital.

1942, the German Wehrmacht is trying to capture the Baku oilfields at the Black sea. Their biggest obstacle are the Caucasian Mountains and few Russians soldiers to stop them. The story revolves around an important Mountain Pass, that is heavily contested by both sides.

The first months after the October Revolution. A small Red Army detachment stops at the Aksai farmstead, thereby causing discord in the family. Old Aksai treats his daughter-in-law Dinseme and her little brother Abido like slaves. But the Red Army soldiers treat them very differently. For the first time, a sense of dignity awakens in their souls. Meanwhile, Dynseme's husband, Gylik, together with another White Guard soldier from Ataman Semenov's gang, learns that the Red Army detachment is about to continue on its way and prepares a plan to destroy it.

In the Crimea, on the shore of the Black Sea lives a girl nicknamed Dubravka. The girl plays soccer, swims in the sea, runs with boys in a race and often becomes a participant of any adventure. But the time comes - and Dubravka begins to grow up. She is as if in a “suspended” state: she is no longer interested in playing with boys, and older boys and girls do not pay much attention to her or perceive her as a child. In the house Dubravka settles vacationer Valentina Grigorievna. The girl likes her so much that Dubravka even “fell in love” with her. Dubravka's neighbor, the lonely father Peter Petrovich, and Valentina sympathize with each other, and Dubravka becomes very jealous of her. The girl does not know where to go from the contradictions simmering in her.

A group of young people comes to a Siberian construction site. They form a brigade, one of their tasks being cutting of a track for a power line. Different reasons made these people go to taiga and become pathfinders. One of them, a former taxi-driver Leonid (A.Kuznetsov) went to earn lots of money, Rimma (A.Zavialova) from the undivided love, the yesterdays schoolboy Constantine to find romantic appeal and adventures, and Vladimir (N.Dovzhenko) attempting to escape his shadowy past. Far away from the city fuss, in severe labor conditions and unsettled way of life, relations of these absolutely unknown to each other people gradually resume the normal course. Here many of them experience revaluation of values, others even find their love.

The Second World War is over. The post-war Germany is divided into several responsibility zones. Still many Russian people languish in camps located in the American zone. Though former allies are in no hurry to let them off to the motherland, and even try to enroll some of them. The American intelligence agency gets to know that they've got a daughter of one of the West Germany cities commandant, whose brother is a famous soviet rocket engineering designer. They plan a crafty operation on the discrimination of the Russian colonel and introduction of the niece into the uncles design office. The Russian Intelligence service is also aware of the Americans interest in the designers works. The special department colonel Lartsev is coming from Moscow to Germany to prepare a reciprocal operation.

A Soviet motor ship chartered by an English tourist firm sets off from London on a round-the-world voyage. A competing firm prepares a provocation on the ship. Mrs. Shelton, having learned that her husband is cheating on her, goes on this cruise to survive the tragedy alone. But on the way she awaits a lot of adventures, as a result of which determined and resourceful Mrs. finds new happiness and new love...

In the liberated village, in the premises of an orphanage, they find the case of a German soldier who took pity on Soviet soldiers and was sentenced to death.

Story is set in deep Russia, on a wild river in woods called "Ugrum-reka" - the Moody river. Son of a dishonest trader, Prohor Gromov wants to become his own man. He takes his fathers order and goes trough the woods to deliver the furs to the byer in the nearest town. He tries to take the shorter way and get`s lost. At the highest point of this, his fathers servant, Abdulla, who is sent with him to guard him almost shoots him driven by hunger, but comes to the senses and saves his life by continuing to go on.
