The peasant Juras Tarutis takes part in the struggle for independent Lithuania and in the election campaign for the Sejm, painfully experiencing the fascist coup in 1926. At first, he firmly believes in land reform and only after difficult trials, he become disillusioned with the reform and with the bourgeois system itself.

The fraud of officials, the thirst for money and a good life, their immorality is compared with the decency of the intelligentsia, intrigue and fear of losing everything when power changes; comical situations are created, but it seems that you don’t have to believe that something will change, because the office of an official changes decent people too....

A faithful adaptation of the story of famous Lithuanian author Baltusis both in subject and artistic presentation. Three brothers Laurynas, Stanislovas and Antanas fall in love with one woman Kazyte and dramatic events make all three brothers go to jail for homicide, while she lives alone on their land.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by P. Kuusberg and tells about the fate of former classmates, high school students, during the Second World War and in the post-war period.

In June 1941, the Extraordinary Defense Headquarters of Leningrad, under the leadership of Zhdanov and Voroshilov, decided to build the Luga defensive line. Heavy fighting west of Pskov forced units of the front to withdraw, and on July 9, Pskov was also abandoned. The battles in the Luga direction held back the enemy. The first attacks of the Germans, intending to cross the Luga line on the move, were repulsed with heavy losses for them.
