Based on the novel of the same name by Mikhail Sholokhov, about the fate of people broken by the First World War, the October Revolution of 1917 and the Civil War in Russia (1917-1922), about the collapse of the foundations and ideals of the Don Cossacks of Russia at the beginning of the XX century, about the personal tragedy of the protagonist — Grigoriy Melekhov.

Young musicologist Marina Gabrielyan arrives in Leningrad with the aim of finding and restoring the first symphony by renowned composer Sergei Kornilov. Despite the composer's active resistance, she manages to find individual parts of the symphony and, with the help of young composer Gurov, restore the music.

The Far East. A tugboat with six sailors was swept out into the open ocean. After unsuccessful search efforts, young Captain Yelagin presents a series of evidence pointing to deliberate criminal activity and declares it an act of treason. Meanwhile, stranded without fuel and supplies, the sailors build a mast, stitch a sail from blankets, and head towards their home shores...
