Paulchen the Hazelnut has a beautiful flower. He is always in trouble with the wind that lives behind his house on the mountain. This villain kidnaps the flower and locks it up in the mountain. Paulchen takes up the fight with the wind, but it simply blows him away. Paulchen makes friends and together they manage to tame the wind.

The girl Nephrite Blossom draws water from an enchanted spring for Otaro, who is exhausted to death. As a result, she falls under the control of the evil spirit Rotwange. Otaro does everything he can to win Nephrite Blossom back.

The first animated feature film made in East Germany. The people of Shilda were once welcome at the courts of princes all over the world, but back at the Shilda castle work remained and had to be carried out by the women of the town.
