The Berliner Philharmoniker dedicate their New Year's Eve concert to famous lovers from the repertoire, embodied with intensity by French tenor Benjamin Bernheim. On the program: Don José (Carmen by Georges Bizet), Lenski (Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky), Werther (in the opera of the same name by Jules Massenet) and Romeo (Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette). The Berlin Philharmonic brings in the New Year with a festive concert featuring performances of music by Gershwin, Bernstein, Porter & Loewe.

A brilliant New Year with Kirill Petrenko and Daniil Trifonov. "He has everything and more - tenderness, but also demonic. I've never heard anything like it," Martha Argerich marveled at Daniil Trifonov. In the New Year's Eve concert 2024, the star pianist will interpret the full-handled Second Piano Concerto by Johannes Brahms with the Berlin Philharmonic and Kirill Petrenko. In addition, magnificently orchestrated dance works by Richard Strauss will be heard: charming waltzes from Der Rosenkavalier and Salome's Dance with its offensive sensuality.

From heartbreak to ecstasy, the Berliner Philharmoniker’s New Year’s Eve Concert takes you on an emotional roller-coaster ride. With his velvety, lyrical voice, star tenor Benjamin Bernheim revels in the lovesick agonies of famous opera heroes: Don José from Bizet’s Carmen, Lenski from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Massenet’s Werther and Gounod’s Romeo. Chief conductor Kirill Petrenko provides some sunnier touches with works by Chabrier and Gershwin.

The Berlin Philharmonic with Kirill Petrenko perform their annual concert for Europe, this time from the baroque magnificence of the Esterházy Palace in Austria. On the programme are works by Haydn, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven.

This concert with chief conductor Kirill Petrenko provides an end to the year under the southern sun. The first stop is Spain, with sparkling ballet music by Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, featuring star guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas. There is a detour to South America with Heitor Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas brasileiras No. 4 and finally the Capriccio espagnol, in which Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov exudes a vibrant southern temperament with Russia colouring. As a tribute to Ludwig van Beethoven, the concert opens with the Leonore Overture No. 3.

In the spring of 2024, the Berliner Philharmoniker, under the direction of their chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, presented a staged production of Richard Strauss’s thrilling and dark opera Elektra – the highlight of the Baden-Baden Easter Festival. The title role was sung by the acclaimed soprano Nina Stemme. Philipp Stölzl, who has caused a sensation with his spectacular productions on the lake stage at the Bregenz Festival, was the director and set designer.

At the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Kirill Petrenko conducts this new production of Alban Berg's Lulu, directed for stage by Dmitri Tcherniakov and starring the soprano Marlis Petersen (Lulu).

Like an outcry the elemental force of the orchestra shatters the silence, the storm on the coast of Cyprus rages incessantly. The wind whips, lightening cuts through the roaring skies. As Othello, the great general and commander becomes entangled in Iago's web of machinations; as the calamitous seed of jealousy germinates and Othello's love for his wife Desdemona begins to decay, even on their wedding day; as Desdemona, "nevertheless insists, although she senses or feels that this harm comes her way, and that Othello in his jealousy is really capable of killing her" (Amélie Niermeyer) – with his Otello Verdi created an operatic drama, the likes of which had never before been so tight, so direct, so intensive and so beautiful, and still today unmatched.

The annual New Year’s Eve Concert is one of the highlights in the calendar of every classical music fan in Berlin and beyond. On New Year‘s Eve, the Berliner Philharmoniker invite an exceptional soloist for a festive gala. Together, the musicians bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new. The 2019 concert was conducted by Kirill Petrenko and featured soprano Diana Damrau.
