Fernando Lemos, a Portuguese surrealist artist, fled from dictatorship to Brazil in 1952 searching for something better. The movie follows the last moments of his journey and the struggle for the preservation of his legacy, trying to fulfill his last great desire: to be a good dead man.

In this horror fable inspired by Hansel and Gretel, orphaned siblings Jonas and Rebecca live in an old mansion with their frail grandmother and a mysterious child hidden in the basement. Rebecca tries to change her life, but Jonas resists, haunted by the ghosts of the house.

On 3 June 2019, Fernando Lemos was at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. He talked about his trip to Japan as a Gulbenkian Foundation grant holder and about the 15 photographs from the series he made there.
