Our Colonial Hangover analyzes the debate surrounding the racist component of the Dutch Black Pete character. Although the debate always heats up around the time of the Saint Nicholas celebrations every December, it reached an unprecedented level of ferocity in 2013.

Set during the years between the "Rebecca" trial and the writing of Du Maurier's short story "The Birds", including her relationship with her husband Frederick 'Boy' Browning, and her largely unrequited infatuations with American publishing tycoon's wife Ellen Doubleday and the actress Gertrude Lawrence.

The paths of the three fugitives often cross. Selamet, who has two days left before his release from prison, and his cellmate Sansar, who is serving a life sentence, are fellow travelers on the same road. The transport vehicle taking Sansar to Sivas Closed Prison will also drop Selamet off at his hometown. There is another traveler coming from the opposite direction on this road: Goril Behlül. After their vehicles collide, they will experience a series of adventurous and comical events.
