Two young men participate in a radical left-wing demonstration in Berlin. Afterwards, they cruise the streets on their bikes. When they pull up next to a luxury car, it looks like the night isn't over for them yet.

Elena is a student in Minsk. She is having an intense but self-destructive love affair with Viktor. When Elena's father goes to prison she has to take charge of his business dealings to help him. She drives repeatedly into the restricted zone at Chernobyl, behind the wheel of a truck, in order to smuggle contaminated steel. The conflicts with Viktor escalate, and Elena is increasingly captivated by the zone's deceptive beauty...

A portrait of a young woman who can’t find stability in her life. Lena’s relationship has turned into a power struggle; for her, love is all about bargaining, rivalry and transgression. The film’s fragmentary narrative reflects the protagonist’s state of mind, and the natural beauty of the idyllic small east German town of Brandenburg provides a stark contrast to Lena’s dark inner struggle.

Interviews with the last living contemporary witnesses of the Nazi era, focusing on those who were involved at the time, the followers and accomplices of the regime. Almost no one from this generation ever spoke about that time after 1945; in German families, the subject was taboo—the unspoken.
