Anders Björck

Over a year, we follow the former Swedish Minister of Defense, Anders Björck, in his work as governor of Uppsala County. The official position is almost 400 years old, and the job consists of sitting at a big desk, having lunch meetings with other governors, cutting ribbons at opening ceremonies, holding speeches and eating dinner with the King and Queen of Sweden. It is hard work, but someone has to do it. Björck gives the viewer full access, making this personal portrait both humorous and very, very serious.

In the 1980s, Säpo agent Jan-Henrik Barrling investigated the assassination of Prime Minister Olof Palme. He was dismissed from Säpo after becoming embroiled in a political scandal linked to Sweden’s Minister of Justice—the so-called Ebbe Carlsson affair. He was also accused of going behind the prosecutors' backs. For all these years, Jan-Henrik Barrling has been bound by a duty of confidentiality. Now, for the first time, he speaks about his work on the Palme murder case and about the wiretapping of a Soviet diplomat and spy—a recording that remains classified to this day.

Birgitta Dahl was involved in pushing through several of the gender equality reforms that we take for granted today: day care for all, general parental insurance, a ban on hitting children and a ban on rape within marriage.

1976 brings several events that leave their mark on Sweden. Silvia Sommerlath marries King Carl Gustaf, and Thorbjörn Fälldin takes over as the new prime minister. On the music scene, international visits stand out when the rock bands Kiss and Sweet come to Sweden. And as Christmas approaches, Trazan Apansson appears on the TV screen for the very first time.
