Adapted from the bestselling Japanese autobiography of the same title, this gentle coming-of-age drama concerns an adolescent boy, Boku - Masaya, torn between the inherited recklessness of his father Oton and the inherited responsibility, wisdom and emotional strength of his mother Okan. Following a period of intensely rebellious behavior, Boku learns that his mom has contracted cancer; suddenly, his mother comes to live with him in Tokyo the entire emotional landscape of his life is altered.

The story is about a family of three sisters and one brother with a dog living and running a Japanese Ryokan in Tenjin-cho, Hiroshima near Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall.

Story concerns teen amateurs trying to make their musical marks, set in Mutsu, Aomori, Japan.

The Music Kingdom contains musical treasures called Sound Jewels, which together produce the "Song of Blessings." The Sound Jewels are stolen by Maou, who corrupts them into Negative Jewels. Through the Dokudoku-dan, the Negative Jewels are used to turn humans into Negative Jewelers to spread a Negative Aura for Maou to use in his plan to conquer the human world by composing an evil song. In order to recover the Sound Jewels, the goddess of the Music Kingdom sends the Fairy Rhythms; Poppun, Rocky, and Kuranosuke, to the human world to seek help.

The story follows the 20-year-old Tsubasa who dedicates her life to her family and their shop. Her life is turned upside down when her mother who was missing came back home. To pay of her mother's debt she starts to work at a small radio station as a DJ.
