A wealthy man marries twice. His jealous second wife murders the first and gets away with it and then plots, along with her daughter, to do away with the stepdaughter.

Anang, Saman and Ahmad are three best friends from a village in Subang. Anang and Ahmad fall in love with Saman's sister, Hasanah. When the call for enrollment in Heiho (army troops formed by Japanese) is announced, Anang and Saman register themselves but Ahmad does not. Anang is accepted as a soldier. When the village people welcome the Heiho, Ahmad commits theft. Hasanah's heart leans more and more towards Anang, and she yearns for his return.

Soedrajat abuses his high social status in order to womanise and becomes his rich uncle's heir despite the latter having a son, the kindly and noble Soelarsa. Ultimately Soedrajat falls for a beautiful young woman, Koestijah. Meanwhile, Soelarsa saves Koestijah's life while driving a truck through her village; the two fall in love at first sight. By manipulating Koestijah's father, Soedrajat arranges for her to marry him.
