Two Soviet humans previously unknown to each other are transported to the planet Pluke in the Kin-dza-dza galaxy due to a chance encounter with an alien teleportation device. This squadron fought from the first day of the war and has already lost most of its composition.

The film is a recollection of an adult about the unforgettable days of the first post-war year. Klava, who lost her husband at the front, with her 12-year-old daughter Lyusya sheltered Aygul with a seven-year-old boy in her house. Aygul's son - the main character, now became a pilot, recalls his childhood in a small Kazakh city, which fell on a difficult post-war time. Flying high above the Earth, he thinks of the Russian girl Lyusya, from his distant past.

Once in an orphanage, nine-year-old Oraz finds a friend in the person of teacher Dovlat. In the hungry post-war years, Dovlat does everything to prevent children from suffering. One day, having caught the cook Izyumgul stealing, he brings trouble upon himself: in order to avoid being put on trial, Izyumgul spreads slanderous rumors about the teacher. Dovlat goes to prison, and the cook becomes the director of the orphanage. Forty years pass, and Oraz is invited to Izyumgul’s anniversary...

Nariman Danaev, the young head of the mine, offers a way out of this situation. He meets with both support and resistance. Thus, behind the production problems there is a struggle of characters, views, and different attitudes. The conflict is moving into the moral sphere.
