The film takes place in Baku in 1918-19 and then several years later. The film is based on the opera of the same name by Fikret Amirov. Sevil became the first film opera in the history of Azerbaijani cinema.

A top American spy is in charge of a delicate mission. The USA plans to infiltrate several U-boats in the sea of Vladivostok, however they need the soviet surveillance satellite to stay 'blind' for a couple of hours, so this spy is sent to damage the antenna for the satellite. Everything was planned accurately. But the CIA never counted on the relentless pursuit of a frontier guard who sees the spy's parachute on landing.

The plot of the film is based on real events that took place in the summer of 1958 on one of the beaches of Absheron, when Tofik Huseynov, a schoolboy from Baku, drowned in the sea while saving drowning children. The film begins before the opening credits: on a deserted beach by the raging sea, a young man, exhausted, pulls drowning girls out of the waves. One, then another, then a third... Then he rushes for the fourth, but drowns with her.

The clash of two styles of approaches to people, science, and business is the main conflict of the film. Both central characters - the head of the Altai complex space station and the experiment leader Andrei - are people devoted to science. But Altai is an emotional person, he manages to take care of people, forgive them their small shortcomings and mistakes. Andrey is dry, sometimes even rude to his employees. His absorption in work sometimes borders on selfishness. This gives rise to a clash with Touma, a gifted physicist, but a man of a different plane.

An extraordinary Wanderer comes to a crumbling house, a dying family, where there are children, where there is prosperity, but there is never loud laughter or children making noise. Who is she? Who did she come for? What does he want? With her arrival, everything in the house is gradually changing.

The film explores intelligent feelings of harmonious coordination and human problems, as well as psychological issues. The film addresses topical issues of contemporary morality. The protagonist, Murad, has a family and a good job, but on a whim, he suddenly feels compelled to abandon everything. Deep down, he is torn between feelings of love and indifference.
