A biblical drama in four acts. Set in a synagogue where Jews hide all night as a pogrom rages outside, the story combines Biblical and pre-World War II Jewish history. The rabbi reads from the Torah, leading, in each act, to the exploration and re-enactment of a different Biblical theme. At the conclusion, the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and the deportation of those hiding become one, while the despair of a scattered people is balanced by a messianic voice that speaks of hope for deliverance of the Jews in Zion.

"Music for the Movies: The Hollywood Sound" explores a segment of that legacy through composers like Max Steiner ("Gone with the Wind"), Franz Waxman ("Bride of Frankenstein") and Erich Korngold ("The Adventures of Robin Hood"), all of whom came from Europe. Steiner was a pupil of Ravel. The American roster includes David Raksin ("Laura") and Alfred Newman ("The Hunchback of Notre Dame"). Host and narrator John Mauceri conducts the BBC National Orchestra of Wales against a backdrop of clips from the various movies.

Composer and performer Danny Elfman, Tim Burton’s prolific musical collaborator, descends on Lincoln Center with an 88-piece orchestra, 44-voice choir and a colorful assortment of fans and fanatics. Live from Lincoln Center will capture all the excitement of this cultural invasion, climaxing in performances of Elfman’s most beloved Burton scores from films like Batman, Beetlejuice, Alice in Wonderland, Big Fish, Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, which features Elfman singing his iconic songs. Accompanying the music are film clips from select movies as well as original sketches and storyboards created by Tim Burton. We’ll also delve into the surreal spectacle behind the performance, offering a whimsical look at Elfman and friends as they arrive on campus and prepare for the show. It’s a stylish musical journey filled with nods to the extraordinary vision of Tim Burton and Danny Elfman.

Set in the Oklahoma territory in the early 1900s, this musical tells the story of two pairs of lovers. Curly is a cowboy who has trouble admitting his feelings to Laurey, as she does to him, because of their stubbornness. Judd, the hired hand at Laurey's farm, tries to come between them. Ado Annie is torn between Will, a cowboy who has strong feelings for her, and Ali Hakim, a peddler who's a ladies' man and doesn't want to marry her. The University of North Carolina School of the Arts' production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, staged in early 2011, uses the original 1943 set and costume designs, dance choreography, and orchestrations.
