They were filmed by Parisian Pathe and Berlin’s UFA… During the Nazi persecution of Jews and the later German nationals’ flight from communists, a dramatic friendship was born through entertainment, dance, but also anxiety. This led towards an unexpected end.

After a hunter commits a terrible act in 18th-century Croatia, he awakens the Drekavac, a mythical creature from Balkan folklore. When the creature takes his daughter, he sets out to confront it, only to discover that its vengeance—and his own guilt—cannot easily be escaped.
