Traveler Severi travels to Helsinki to enjoy some culture, where he meets Sinikka and Simo, who run a buying and selling business. At a customs auction, he buys a painting that businessman Kehveli and his assistants also have their eyes on.

The film tells the story of the romance between the timber rafters and widow Kaisa, her daughter Satu and Katri from Karkela. Problems are caused by the men in the village, especially the Master of Karkela, who has his own plans for widow's land.

The story of poor brake man Jaakko and beautiful train conductor Mimmi, who is also admired by welder Heikki, rapper Ranssu, bricklayer Martsu, and engineer Immu. The story also involves Jenny and Aleksi, a Roma couple who run a construction site canteen.

Justiina Puupää drives her husband Pekka and his friend Pätkä to look for work. The two decide to make money the easy way and try to have an accident after first getting accident insurance. After trying their luck, they hurt their heads and in the hospital, the comrades see each other's more outrageous antics.

Pekka is given the task of renting a summer place, but real estate agent Aadolf Muikku tricks him into buying a villa.

Captain Routa has to teach a civil defense class to the girls at a boarding school. He accidentally wanders into the shower room and tries to get out disguised as a cleaner, but ends up in the same bed as gymnastics teacher Marjatta. Private Pöntinen, who is dating the boarding school cook, has a blast when he gets his hands on Captain Routa's uniform.

Pete and Runt travel to Lapland to hunt the snowman in the hope of a cash reward, and take Justiina along as a bait.

Private Tossavainen and Corporal Konstila end up cleaning the apartment of Captain Kulma, their company commander, while trying to avoid outdoor duty. The neropats compete for the attention of maid Maiju when Captain Agatha's aunt, who has spent her life at sea, arrives for a visit with her foster daughter Emma, turning the entire barracks upside down.

Vuokko takes shelter from a thunderstorm in a fishing hut and meets a mysterious man whom she suspects is the smuggler Rompan Eetu. Instead of reporting him, Vuokko decides to follow him to Helsinki to the smugglers' hideout on the condition that he agrees to turn himself and his comrades in to the police.

Justina urges Pete and Runt to get a job. As a result they meet an orphan boy named Otto while working as a park nannies. They offer to shelter the boy, but at the same time the father Antti, who has returned from the sea, is looking for his son together with Miss Raikas.

Factory manager Risto Järviö is under his mother's thumb. When his mother forbids him from dancing with factory girl Seija Vaara, Seija decides to make anonymous phone calls to Risto to annoy his controlling mother. Risto falls in love with the voice on the other end of the line and begins to make major changes in his life.

Heikki Aaltonen enlists in military service, leaving behind his father Hemminki, mother Mimmi, and beloved Helvi on the family farm. At the same time, another Heikki Aaltonen enlists, who is completely different in character from the future small farmer Aaltonen. The constant confusion between the men's names, the overprotective attitude of their parents, and Helvi's admission to a domestic science school near the regiment are all factors that tend to disrupt Heikki's military service.

Coal miner Esaias Coolman returns to Finland from his working years in America.

Pekka and Pätkä work as inventors. Pätkä accidentally takes a photograph of bank robbers, who begin to track down the photographer. Soma Koivu, the former secretary of the property manager Kiivas, and police officer Antero Kangas help Pekka and Pätkä catch the robbers at a film studio where Pekka is working as a stand-in for Superman.

Young Anna marries Tuomas, an old widower. Tuomas reluctantly sells his forest to the boss of Ruukki and is forced to take in a group of loggers, among whom the handsome womanizer Humu begins to seduce the young mistress of the house.

St. Peter's announcement interrupts the Welcome to Morning Coffee radio program. He asks people for help because he does not know whether private detective Uljas Uriel Vaaksanpää has died or is still alive. The strange events are followed from the perspective of different characters.
