For the members of the student fraternity "Corps Germania" it is a living democracy and a school for life - for outsiders, it is a claustrophobic, hierarchical microcosm with strict rules and strange rituals. What are these young men searching for?

The petty criminal Frieda stops the physicist Oskar from killing himself. They both embark on a journey to Norway. Oskar does’nt seem to find life worth living as he has calculated that he will never find love and therefore spend the rest of his lifetime alone. The two find themselves on a journey to each other and in the search for a will to live.

In a makeshift boat, a GDR refugee escapes to West Germany. His newfound freedom is disorienting, and it is only later, with a growing nationalist movement, that he begins to feel at home.
