In today’s Friesland, Fuchs, a food inspector in the district, is always in a good mood and committed to investigating North German snack bars. He dreams of a career in Hamburg, for which he works hard. But his superior at the public order office, Sigmar Koch, asks Fuchs to do him a special favor: he has to accommodate his brother Tillmann, a bad-tempered drunk.

Ralf Prange lives on the ground floor and is at home all day. This makes him the perfect "branch" for the whole building. Stacks of boxes and parcels from his neighbors pile up in his tiny apartment. But one day, love comes knocking at his door: Dörte, the new parcel delivery woman. The grumpy but kind-hearted Prange is smitten, and Dörte doesn't seem averse to the idea either. However, Horst Rohde, Prange's number one annoying neighbor, doesn't like the budding romance at all. Because he has his eye on Dörte himself.

Now, after 30 years, she is unexpectedly voted out of office, loses her leave of absence and has to return to her old job as a former clerk shortly before retirement - in the department of her son Bastian, of all places, who as an up-and-coming department head wants and needs to impress with modern leadership.
