A lazy and wasteful slacker who enjoys living off his hard-working brother reluctantly accepts to work as a debt collector. Now, he is in love, and for once in his life, he is good at something. Can the boss' daughter straighten him out?

Shortly after the Occupation, businessman Konstantinos Mavroleon approaches Alekos Kallergis, a fallen aristocrat and professional gambler, and offers to hire him for three months for a large sum of money. Alekos was initially surprised. However, when Mavroleon explained the situation to him, he finally accepted. At the beginning of the war, Mavroleon's daughter, Olga, met army officer Dimos Fokas, who was killed shortly afterwards. Her father, however, told her that he had been taken prisoner. Olga is seriously ill and will die in three months. Mavroleon thought of giving her a few moments of happiness, since Alekos looks remarkably like Dimos. His daughter, although she suspects the deception, accepts the man close to her, so that she can end her life with the deceptive feeling of the presence of the man she once loved.

During the cold spring of 1941, with Greece already under German occupation, a long-suffering squad of war-battered soldiers receives orders from the headquarters in Athens to fall back, leaving behind the Albanian Front. As the men retreat through the snow-covered landscapes of the bomb-scarred Greek countryside, the terrifying certainty that nothing will ever be the same again crushes their weary human souls.

Andreas, nephew of the abbot of the Monastery of Dionysios, who died eight years previously, arrives at Agion Oros (Mount Athos) with a team of smugglers of antiquities, with the intention of stealing a gold cross set with precious gems, known as the Cross of Alexander the Great. He earns the trust of the meek and hospitable monks. However, a Jewish girl, Anna - whom, while still a baby during the war, her father had entrusted to the care of the hermit Vasileios - continues to pretend she is a young monk. She manages gradually to discover the entire scheme and acts to foil their plot.

August 1944, and a captain in the Greek army in the Middle East, Jason, secretly disembarks on an island with the mission of gathering information on the state of the German defensive positions, in view of the imminent landing of the Allied Forces. To complete his mission, he makes contact with some rebels, but the Germans are aware of his presence and arrest twelve men to force him to surrender. Shortly before the deadline expires, a local man who had been declared a deserter shortly before the war began and had been in hiding, presents himself at his post and is executed, making his wife and son proud.

A deliberate injustice forces an orphaned music student to leave home, only to land a job as a pianist for an affluent woman's canaries. Now, it's time to turn the page. Can she find a bright future amid two hundred and one songbirds?
