It’s Liridona’s wedding day. Pregnant, the young bride finds herself married to a complete stranger. As her mother coerces her through the rituals of the ceremony, the two women find themselves being torn apart.

Because she regrets that she has been given up her child for adoption, a young woman sets out to find her now six-year-old daughter. When she finds the girl again, she cannot bear the fact that her daughter does not recognize her, and so she makes a momentous decision.

Milica lives with her aging grandmother in the Serbian countryside. When Milica’s uncle arrives, he delivers the surprising news that they are departing for Germany and in order to cross the border, Milica must pretend to be his son. However, Milica is very resistant to the idea of leaving her grandmother.
