21st Century Girl is an omnibus feature that is of the girls, by the girls and for the girls. The work of 15 women directors under the age of 30, each of whom contributed an 8-minute film, the package highlights a range of genres, visions and thematic concerns.

Toka returns to the island she grew up to attend her mother's second memorial service. She finds out that her father Seiji is wearing her mother's clothes. As if that doesn't come as enough of a shock, Seiji even tells Toka that he is getting married again to a man named Kazuo. The film explores the particular incident and the life of the island people with a humorous touch.

36-year-old bachelorette Mami achieved success with an essay she wrote 10 years ago. Mami has since lost her way, and hasn't been able to write a hit piece. Meanwhile Yukino, who leads an independent life, Ayaka who is a housewife, and Miho, who makes her livelihood as a "daddy's girl", are each facing various difficulties in their own lives.

28-year-old Sasano Seiko (Sonim) has returned home to celebrate her widower father's (Itao Itsuji) remarriage.
