Based on the short story of the same name by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, it is about a young man living in Saint Petersburg who suffers from loneliness. He gets to know and falls in love with a young woman, but the love remains unrequited as the woman misses her lover, with whom she is finally reunited.

In this provocative Soviet drama, an aged couple are left homeless after their farm burns down, and they head off to live with their impoverished daughter. When they arrive, they are appalled to learn that she has abandoned her child and husband to run away with a married man. The husband is now an alcoholic, so the grandparents stay on to support their son-in-law in his time of need and to help care for their grandson. Later, the errant daughter is dumped by her lover and returns. Many fights ensue until the grandfather banishes his troublesome daughter from their lives.

Natka, who dreams of becoming a captain, is sent to pioneer work. She takes her first assignment very seriously - and receives a trip to Crimea. In Artek, Natka is asked to replace a sick pioneer leader. The girl agrees. Soon, during the construction of a water pipeline, a dam breaks and a struggle for water begins. Engineer Ganin, who came on vacation with his little son Alka, also joins this fight. In the ruins of the old fortress, Vladik and Tolik find dynamite. To track down their enemies, the guys hide explosives and swear not to reveal their “military secrets”...

Christian Luka, an old wine grower, lives alone in the village of Redu Mare. Upon learning that it was decided to demolish the old vineyard in order to plant new vines in its place, Christian loses heart and decides that it's time for him to give way to the young ones. The chairman of the collective farm, understanding the mood of the old man, preserves his vineyard. And again the old man prunes the vine. The work rejuvenated him, filled him with new vitality. He no longer shuns people, but takes an active part in their lives and affairs. He realized that a person should not live in isolation from people, that his immortality lies in the good deeds that remain after him.
