The seven short films making up GENIUS PARTY couldn’t be more diverse, linked only by a high standard of quality and inspiration. Atsuko Fukushima’s intro piece is a fantastic abstraction to soak up with the eyes. Masaaki Yuasa, of MIND GAME and CAT SOUP fame, brings his distinctive and deceptively simple graphic style and dream-state logic to the table with “Happy Machine,” his spin on a child’s earliest year. Shinji Kimura’s spookier “Deathtic 4,” meanwhile, seems to tap into the creepier corners of a child’s imagination and open up a toybox full of dark delights. Hideki Futamura’s “Limit Cycle” conjures up a vision of virtual reality, while Yuji Fukuyama’s "Doorbell" and "Baby Blue" by Shinichiro Watanabe use understated realism for very surreal purposes. And Shoji Kawamori, with “Shanghai Dragon,” takes the tropes and conventions of traditional anime out for very fun joyride.

Mai (Rika Adachi) is a high school student. She attends a new school and there she meets her classmate Shino (Manami Enosawa). Shino was bullied by Mai's friends back in their middle school days. Table have now turned.

43-year-old business woman, Harumi. She lives with her husband, after their only daughter, Michiyo, married two years ago. One day, Michiyo is killed by her husband, Koji. Koji is sentenced to death. Harumi initially agreed with it, but starts thinking to stop the death penalty of Koji. Although her husband and all her family are strongly opposed to her decision, she keeps trying to stop the death penalty with the help of Koji's lawyer. Harumi had a secret of Michiyo that she doesn't want to tell anyone.

A samurai from the Edo Period time travels to present day Japan where he meets a divorcee and her son. Soon, he discovers a passion for making pastries.

Shiori, a young woman aspiring to work as a fashion magazine editor, is hired by the publishing house of erotica for men. There, she finds herself surrounded by salacious photos and indecent language. However, some of Shiori's earlier enthusiasm is regained through editor-in-chief Ms. Sawaki and pornographic actress-cum-columnist Haru; with their help, she develops an interest in erotica that she uses to hone her writing talent. One day a blunder that could spell the company's end tests the limits of Shiori's mental state. Physically exhausted from the high demand of the job, she is subject to one last shock that pushes her close to the edge.

The musical was initially scheduled from June 25 to 30, 2020 at the Theatre1010 in Tokyo and from July 3 to 5, 2020 at the Mielparque Hall in Osaka but it was cancelled because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
