Manuel Altolaguirre

Adaptation of the novel by Alejandro Pérez Lujín, centered on the university adventures in Santiago de Compostela of Gerardo Roquer from Madrid, who stays in a boarding house known as "La Casa de la Troya".

El cantar de los cantares is one of the most fascinating and unknown artistic experiences of the post-war Spanish exile. The prestigious poet and editor Manuel Altolaguirre adapted Fray Luis de León's texts to film, trying to formulate an encounter between Castilian mysticism and Mexican exuberance.

Newlywed Oliverio receives disturbing news that his mother is on her deathbed. He travels to a remote part of Mexico to fetch a lawyer who can sort out her will. Leaving his wife behind, he embarks on a bus ride that’s interrupted by an increasingly absurd series of episodes, including an impromptu birthday celebration; a one-legged man writhing in the mud; come-ons from an insatiable small-town belle, Raquel; and Oliverio’s frequent, Freudian nightmares.

Career criminals vie for ownership of a disreputable waterfront dive and for the love of the cabaret-gal that sings there.

Dreamer father wants son to become a bullfighter, and daughter to become a singer, so they become instant millionares, although their talent is not apparently there.

Faded rich family has a housekeeper who struggles to keep them fed and comfortable after their fortune disappears; she also sacrifices herself on behalf of sick and disabled friends.

All men who arrive on a small island fall in love with the daughters of an old fisherman who live there.
