The film is about a Turkmen who defends his homeland from invasion. He is captured, tortured, and brainwashed into serving his homeland's conquerors. He is so completely turned that he kills his mother when she attempts to rescue him from captivity.

The film covers the period from 1903 to the mid-1920s. In the center of the epic narrative is the story of the difficult love of the poor Berda and the daughter of the shepherd Uzuk, who will be freed and made happy by the revolution.

The film is set in a Turkmen village in the early years of collectivization. With the arrival of the new regime, much has changed. The film's protagonist, Ataniyaz, is overcome with agonizing doubts about what to do next. Bahram Khan, who has arrived from abroad, suggests that Ataniyaz take all his wealth and leave the country. But moving flocks of sheep is no easy task: it requires loyal shepherds. Now Ataniyaz-bai pins all his hopes on the young shepherd Kerim, who is passionately in love with his daughter, Ziba.

The young shepherd Murad and the beautiful Aigul fell in love with each other. But their happiness was short-lived. The evil Deva took the girl away and imprisoned her in a dungeon along with other women, whose bitter tears turned into silver beads. Murad , along with his friends and Aigul's brother, Aman, must save her.

City girl Jeren, a pupil of an orphanage, moves to the village to live with the parents of her husband Kerim. Here she starts working at the club. The head of the family, Soltan-aga, initially greets his daughter-in-law with hostility. He doesn’t like the fact that she is an orphan, he considers her a “stranger,” because he wanted to see his neighbor’s daughter as his son’s wife. And only Kerim’s mother Ogulgerek is hospitable and cordial with Jeren. Time passes. Jeren manages to turn the club into a real cultural center, and local youth help her in this. Kerim is also doing well: he is organizing the work of the collective farm garage...

In the 1920s, in Turkmenistan, Qalli-bai makes the difficult decision to join the Basmachi, leaving behind his ailing wife in the care of their daughter, Dzhamal.

The end of the 1920s. A young oil engineer, Ovez Emudov, arrives in the Karakum Desert to search for oil. The lack of drinking water, necessary equipment, and workers in the barren steppes, as well as the open sabotage of the trust's employees led by Mukhortov, a staunch enemy of the Soviet government, are all factors that the head of the exploration site must contend with. The film is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic.

An Eastern shah and his vizier have no heirs. One day, they go hunting, intending to shoot a roe deer. At the last moment, the vizier notices that the doe was about to give birth, and the shah decides to spare the animal. That same night, the shah and the vizier have the same dream: it is as if the doe has foretold to them that both would soon have heirs.

Old man Khalnazar tells the orphan Toykuli about the kidnapped Gyulkahkas-peri, who brings joy to people. The boy decides to find Gylkahkas. Bai Kakabai, who fiercely hates the Soviet government, goes abroad with his family and servants. He is followed by the Nurali and Dodur brothers. The younger is in love with the owner's daughter, the elder cannot part with his beloved Akhal-Teke horse, Dik-Ayak. Having wandered through a foreign land, the brothers will find neither happiness nor prosperity there, and they will return home.

1919. Retreating under the blows of the Red Army, the English interventionists intend to take all the purebred Akhal-Teke horses with them. They are assisted in this by the horse thief Alikhan, who has already managed to obtain the purebred Lachin horse. To oversee this crucial mission, Captain Kelvin arrives in Ashgabat. Red Army soldier Kurban also arrives, already monitoring the situation and providing necessary instructions to the underground. Meanwhile, Dovlet, the owner of Lachin, tries to free his beloved horse, but he is captured by Alikhan. The young man learns that the horse thief plans to deceive the British and sell the herd to the Basmachis.

The 1950s. The construction of the Karakum Canal is underway in Turkmenistan. The fate of this large construction site is closely linked to the fate of many of the film's characters: correspondent Koryshev, who reveals the lies of his colleague Zurabov's ostentatious, slanderous articles; talented young engineer Karabash, whose advanced construction methods are supported by the construction site chief Ermasov; embittered old engineer Khorev, who, out of envy for Karabash, writes denunciations to the Central Committee of the party against him and Ermasov..

The confrontation of two, in their own right, sides: the young chairman of the collective farm Dzhupbar, who dreams of rebuilding the village "in a new way", and the elders, who do not want to part with the long-standing plane tree, the beauty and pride of the village.

A barber dies under mysterious circumstances in a border village. Soon a new master appears, followed by the enemy agent Gyurza... After a fierce fight, the "barber" surrenders Gyurza to the border guards.

Chary Kalandarov, the director of one of Turkmenistan's industrial enterprises, begins the reconstruction of his factory. His actions are supported by some and actively opposed by others. Jumaev, the head of the petrochemical industry in the republic, becomes Kalandarov's main adversary, as he is primarily concerned with meeting the plan's deadlines.
