Mother Teresa of Calcutta, one of the few canonized saints of our day, is discovered through the eyes of Kavita, a young Englishwoman abandoned by her boyfriend after she’s found to be pregnant. Kavita journeys to Calcutta to escape her pain and soon discovers that even holy people like Mother Teresa have to face life’s challenges and, in fact, struggle through years of spiritual crisis known as the “dark night of the soul”. Inspired by Teresa’s example of perseverance and compassionate love, Kavita rediscovers hope and purpose.

Hundreds of thousands of Indian men and women – indigenous inhabitants and landless farmers – demand their right to existence by making a 400 kilometre protest march from Gwalior to Delhi. How can one fight for one’s rights without using violence? With such an important contemporary question, the film spreads far beyond the borders of India. It shows the multiple facets of this imposing protest march and focuses as well on the daily realities of these proud people.

Sheela, an English activist of Indian origin, learns that her father has died, devoured by a tiger! Despite her hatred for this father who returned to India thereby abandoning her and her mother, Sheela and her husband go to India to sell the property she inherited. When they arrive, they encounter Bindu, a white hippie, who declares himself to be her father’s spiritual son, and who claims his right for the property. Not without charming Sheela…

Mira's spirit floats above Mumbai. She encounters several other souls, also victims of various incidents. Suddenly, time begins to reverse, and through flashbacks, Bumbai Bird reveals what brought these wandering spirits together. Kamal Musale directs a film as free as the air, set to music by Malcolm Braff. A mosaic of destinies viewed through the prism of Indian beliefs.
